NATIONAL LABOUR PRODUCTIVITY STATISTICS

Directorate General for Productivity and Industry calculates labour productivity statistics depending on its mission of measuring national productivity, comparing productivity with other countries and publishing them periodically, as specified by the law no. 649; establishment law of Directorate General for Productivity and Industry. Directorate General for Productivity and Industry has started to publish these statistics from 30.06.2009 under the title of "National Productivity Statistics" within the context of TURKSTAT's Official Statistics Program (RİP) which is designed to determine the standards and basic principals about the production and dissemination of official statistics and produce up- to- date, reliable, impartial and transparent data in the areas necessary at national and international levels. By this Program, it is aimed to prevent duplications in the production and dissemination of official statistics.

Directorate General for Productivity and Industry has revised these productivity statistics for the sake of producing comparable, user oriented, impartial, updated statistics for more sectors, pursuant to objectives and targets determined in Directorate General for Productivity and Industry’s Strategic Plan of 2007-2011. As a result of this revision, productivity statistics have been issued annually and quarterly, starting from 30.06.2009, within the context of National Productivity Statistics. Since 2014, Regional Productivity Statistics have been published within National Productivity Statistics

Annual Statistics between the years 2003-2008 are calculated for the sections of C, D, E, F, G, H, I, K, M, N and O, for the sub-sections, divisions and groups of these sections according to the classification of NACE Rev 1.1., Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in EU starting from the year 2003. Furthermore, statistics have been issued compatible with EUROSTAT's definition of energy sector.

For the year 2009 and following; Annual Statistics are calculated for the sections of B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, L, M, N, P, Q, R and S, for the sub-sections, divisions and groups of these sections according to the classification of NACE Rev.2 Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in EU.

Quarterly statistics are calculated for sectors B (Mining and quarrying), C (Manufacturing) and D (Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply) of NACE Rev 2. In addition, quarterly statistics are issued for total industry (sum of B, C, D ) and 5 sub-sections for Main Industrial Groupings (MIGs) and divisions of B (Mining and quarrying)(except 09) and C (Manufacturing) . These statistics have been calculated and issued quarterly starting from the first quarter of 2009.

Regional statistics are calculated for the sections A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, M, N and O according to NACE Rev1.1 for the years 2003-2008; and these statistics are also calculated for the sections A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, L, M, N, P, Q, R and S according to NACE Rev 2 for the years 2009 and later. Regional productivity statistics are calculated for 26 regions of Turkey’s NUTS Level 2. “Turnover” data is selected for output and “number of persons employed” data is selected for input variable. These statistics have been calculated annually and have been published on the first workday of September.

Directorate General for Productivity and Industry aims to improve the diversity of statistics, its skill to keep the information up –to-date and include more sectors. Studies have been continuing to produce statistics compatible with the international standards, and able to meet the requirements of public and the related people. National Productivity Indicators have been shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3.
